Physical exams aren’t just routine check-ins. In many cases, they’re the key step that helps you move forward. Whether you’re starting a new job, renewing a certification, joining a sports team or meeting school requirements, the right exam provides the documentation and medical evaluation needed to confirm you’re cleared for the activity ahead.

That’s why convenient access matters. When deadlines are approaching and schedules are packed, being able to get an exam without disrupting your day can make all the difference.

At CareNow® urgent care, we make it easier to get the exam you need. With extended hours, convenient Web Check-In® and over 225 clinics across the country, we offer walk-in physicals and other options designed to fit your schedule and support your health needs.

Specialized physical exams

Our CareNow clinics offer specialized exams based on community needs and provider availability. These exams may not be available at every location, so it’s important to confirm services with your nearest clinic before your visit.

Below are a few of the specialized exams offered at select CareNow locations, and what you can expect when you arrive:

Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals

If you drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), federal law requires that you pass a regular physical exam under the DOT. Select CareNow clinics offer DOT physicals for commercial drivers. These exams are required to maintain a commercial driver’s license and must meet federal safety standards. Some special circumstances may require you to take this exam. For instance: if you are a new commercial driver, if your license needs to be renewed, if you have changed employers or have a medical condition that might need analysis. During this exam, we will evaluate your vision, hearing, blood pressure and overall physical health to ensure that you can safely operate commercial vehicles.

When you might need a DOT physical

DOT physicals are commonly needed when you are:

  • A new commercial driver seeking medical certification
  • Renewing your certification as part of your CDL requirements
  • Changing employers and asked to provide updated documentation
  • Managing a condition that may require additional evaluation under DOT guidelines

What the exam evaluates

DOT exams are designed to assess whether you can safely operate a commercial vehicle. Your provider will evaluate areas such as:

  • Vision and hearing
  • Blood pressure and cardiovascular health indicators
  • Overall physical health and functional ability relevant to safe driving

What to bring

To help your visit go smoothly, bring:

  • A valid ID
  • Any required DOT paperwork (if you have it)
  • A list of current medications
  • Information about relevant medical history or conditions that could affect certification

Because DOT requirements can be specific, confirming your clinic offers DOT physicals before you arrive is the best first step.

Sports physicals and school physicals

To help your family stay on track during busy seasons we provide convenient sports and school physicals for kids, teens and young adults. If you are a parent with a child who needs an athletic physical for sports or other extracurricular activities, these exams are often required for participation.

Sports and school physicals typically focus on overall health, physical fitness and the ability to safely participate in activities. Requirements may vary by school or organization, so patients should bring any necessary forms to their appointment.

We often run seasonal specials during back-to-school and sports registration, making it easy to check school and sports physicals off your list with no appointment needed.

We have designed our physical exam services to support your everyday health needs, life transitions and required documentation. And beyond that, we are always focused on making care simple, accessible and centered around you.
